Murals and Monuments:
While strolling downtown you can see many of our murals and monuments, from Jim & Belle Butler who found Tonopah to the Stealth which was tested at the Tonopah Test Site. Read about Tonopah’s history and famous persons on the plaques on each mural and monument.
Old Tonopah Cemetery:
Many fascinating people are buried in the Old Tonopah Cemetery, and they have some incredible stories. Read some of their stories in the brochure available at the entrance to the cemetery. If brochures are out, click here.
Tonopah Stargazing Park:
Away from the big city lights of Las Vegas and Reno, Tonopah, Nevada has the unique distinction of having one of the darkest nighttime skies in the country. Take advantage of this rare opportunity where the brightest lights around are what you see in the sky. On clear nights, you can see up to 7,000 stars and the Milky Way with your bare eyes, no equipment necessary.
Tonopah Historic Mining Park:
The Tonopah Historic Mining Park is located on the site of the original mining claims that started the rush to Tonopah, making it “Queen of the Silver Camps”. Jim and Belle Butler’s strike in 1900 brought the United States into the 20th Century, and many of the mining processing techniques developed during that time are still being used today. Take the self-guided walking tour or book the Guided Polaris tours. Where else can you visit a museum in an off-road vehicle?
Central Nevada Museum:
The Central Nevada Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the history of Nye & Esmeralda counties through displays and a research library made available to the public at the Central Nevada Museum in Tonopah, Nevada. Our rich history, which includes mining, ranching, and life in the Wild West is presented in a small, but well applauded museum.
Downtown:
Walk our historic downtown with many of its original buildings. Make sure to visit our unique shops, grab a bite to eat at one of our local eateries, or have a drink at one of our local bars. Some bars are haunted, some have an incredible view over Tonopah. When it comes to food and drink in Tonopah, you can never go wrong!
